Good evening/afternoon,
It is afternoon by Moscow time, but we are still on Siberia time--5 hours later.
We had a moment of panic this morning. Molly's husband, Martin, has been our 'Flight Master'. Letting the rest of the family know about take offs, landings, delays, etc for each of our flights. He found a great tracking program and it's been very helpful.
This morning, as Molly and I were sitting in our hotel room at Baikal, we got a message that we "were in the air and would be landing at 12:10 Moscow time!" Our correct landing time, but we were not in the air. Since most of you don't know Martin, he is often called Einstein by those who know and love him. He is one of the most intelligent and kindest people I know. Molly and I looked at each other and rushed for our flight information, convinced that we had somehow screwed up. Luckily, all was fine. Martin had the wrong flight number, and we had not missed our flight to Moscow. We landed early, found our guide and headed for the hotel.
At this point I will say--Molly and I are out of our league! This place is the fanciest hotel either of us has ever stayed in. They whisked us from the main desk up to the VIP lounge. Yes, I am a VIP--and not only in my own mind. :)) There was a buffet set out--all of our food and drinks are free, alcohol and otherwise, for all the days we are here. This is the schedule of the VIP lounge:
7:30-11 Breakfast
12-3 Light lunch
3:30-6 Afternoon Tea
6-8 Evening presentation
8-10 Desserts and Cocktails
10-7:30 am Snacks in the Conference room (which happens to be on the 10th floor--our floor)
Now I am thinking--what do we do if we get hungry between 11 and 12, and 3-3:30? Maybe we should take a few of the cookies (choc chip, pistachio caramel, white choc macademia, white choc coconut, and more), to tide us over during those closed times. We could invite all of you to join us, but it will cost 8,000 RUR per visitor per day. That equals $122 USA, 4,000 Taiwan, 89 Brit Pound (although that could change with them pulling out of the EU), or 110 Euro.
Dad caught a cold and is feeling a bit sniffley. He is sleeping, by his inner clock it is 10:30pm and well past his bedtime. Molly went over to Red Square, an easy walk across the street. Since I visited Moscow before I left Slovakia, so I am happy to stay in the room. Besides, I might get hungry and be too far from the hotel to get back before I starve to death.
These photos were taken from the VIP lounge and our hotel room. Dad got a good pano with his phone. We are enjoying our trip and having lots of fun. Well, right now I am on my own with Molly gone and Dad sleeping, but when we are awake and together, we are having lots of fun. We will visit Red Square and the Kremlin tomorrow afternoon. We have the morning off. Hmmm, where's that schedule of the food times? Dang, I think I am going to have to miss the Afternoon Tea.

ps. Molly just came back with some great photos, and a latte for me! What a great sister. :))

Dad's pano from the hotel lounge |
Looking out from the lounge of the hotel. I think those yellow buildings are part of the Kremlin, but I'm not sure. I had 2 glasses of beer and that might have been 1 1/2 too many . . .? |
Looking towards the left from our hotel room. I couldn't get rid of the glare and the windows don't open. |
Looking towards the right from our hotel room. |
