Oh No! Slovakia lost to Germany :( (Day 20)

Red Square in the morning
Kremlin in the afternoon

But first was breakfast.  More smoked salmon and capers--I could eat that stuff forever.  Reminds me of the brunches at the fancy hotels in Jakarta.  We had the morning free so we walked over to Red Square.  At 9 in the morning, it was almost deserted.  The tourists tend to sleep in and wait until the morning rush hour is over.  It's Sunday, but when we arrived at 8:50--the Square was about empty.  20 minutes later, it was 1/2 full.  We walked all around it, checked out the world clock, then walked back to our hotel.  It was quite hot in the sun, and the shady spots were taken with big groups of tourists.
We decided to go up to the 12th floor of our hotel since we had been told the view was great.  What they failed to tell us was that we would actually have to pay for our drinks!  It was a shocking discovery.  It was a nice view and it was also nice to sit outside under a big umbrella.  It had one of those misters, so we stayed cool.  There is a Mercedes car up there.  Just sitting, nicely clean since someone has that job.  Molly finally had to ask how they got it up there.  A crane.
Moscow has a really nice skyline with all the onion domes, regular domes, clock towers, and this huge beautiful building that turned out to be apartments.
In the afternoon we went to the Kremlin.  That is a really nice place.  Our guide, Larisa, really knows her country's history--and loves it.  We listened to her for at least 3 hours, and never got bored, her stories were so interesting.  Apparently, Ivan was not so terrible, a bit cruel, but not terrible.
We went right for a beer when we got back.  Watched the Germany/Slovakia EURO football match.  Martin--I wasn't against Germany, but I had to cheer for Slovakia.  To my friends in Slovakia, I am sorry you lost.
We tour the city tomorrow morning and hop on a train for St. Petersburg in the afternoon.  I am the only one awake now--I guess it's time to shut down.  Oh.  Photos first.

Just took this picture.  It is from our hotel window at 10 pm.
A bunch of onion minarets.  Or something like that?  Inside the Kremlin
Pano of the three churches inside the Kremlin

The Czar Cannon--the largest in the world.  But those big balls in front of it don't fit so they had to use bits of wood and metal as ammunition.
Molly and Dad with lots of little cannons.

The World Clock outside of Red Square.  It has loads of cities listed on it.
I'm going with Bell Tower for the Kremlin.  Someone has to wake up those people inside so they are not late for work.
Salmon and capers.   Soooooo good!
We're in Russia--we had to try the caviar.  With the sour cream and little pancake, it was quite good.
The double headed eagle.  He is on lots of rooftops.
Dad in front of the largest bell in the world.  Kremlin
One of the 3 churches in the Kremlin
St. Basil's Cathedral in Red Square.  Has a little bit of color, eh?
This building is also in Red Square.  It is beautifel.  Unfortunately, it is a huge mall.  Yep, of the shopping sort.
