After a wild night, none of us seemed to sleep well, we took another walk. We tried to find the place where a hiking trail connected to the road. Never did find it, but it was a nice walk all the same. Saw some monkeys, little frogs, and loads of butterflies. Tried to get Dad to do some rock climbing, but he wasn't having any of it. I was about to ask him where was his sense of adventure, but then I remembered he's on a trip around the world, one can hardly accuse him of not being adventurous!
In the early evening, the hotel arranged a shuttle to take us to the Hualien night market. It has completely changed since I was there 3 years ago. Sadly, I did not see the pick up with the Nebraska license plate in the window this time. We had dinner from the vendors there. Spiced/fried crab, corn on the cob, sticky rice, noodles, a veg/pork sandwich— the bread was like the outside of a baoza. (white buns with filling inside). Dad found ice cream—of a sort. We caught a taxi back to the hotel.
We are finding the breakfasts to be quite good. They have some homemade jam--banana, pineapple/mango, apple and I can't remember the 4th.
Whoops--I see that Dad just found ice cream. That man can smell it from a long ways off. :))

This is something no self-respecting person should ever eat--they call themselves snails, but we all know they are slugs! A slug by any other name is still a slug. (sorry Bryan) |
